[ What did she say. What did she say?? Oh. Viktor's jaw clenches a little as he gives Jayce one of those glaring looks. ] Ah. Well, for starters she said she would not work with you because you are a, ah, bitch. [ Viktor?!
His voice is getting softer the more angry he gets. ] And then she proceeded to tell me that she would give me all the details of her research. To which I tried to suggest that we work on it together with her, to at least keep an eye on things. Of course, she hung up once I mentioned not to use the gemstone for weaponry. So. That is that.
[ He is now turned around fully towards Jayce, his expression, which was normally neutral, is now just so annoyed looking. ] And now the only gemstone in Etraya is in the hands of Jinx. And I don't think she will want to speak to either of us again about it either. Suffice to say it- [ has gone to shit ] -did not work.
[ He rubs his eyes as he lets out a frustrated sigh through his nose. This is a disaster. Who knows what she'll create with it. ]
What could you possibly have said to her that caused this, Jayce? [ He coughs lightly. ] Nevermind. It doesn't matter.
[ He needs to sit because 1. it's too early for this and 2. he is starting to feel that burning pain in his chest again as he coughs while walking to take a seat on the bed. ] Has she had a gemstone this whole time...?
[Jayce gives an annoyed look in return, like he's just tasted a lemon, at hearing Jinx had called him a bitch. Childish behavior, but whatever. He's not going to get upset about it.
But now Viktor is annoyed at him too, and that's a lot more serious.]
She-
[Nevermind, Viktor doesn't want to hear his excuses. Jayce drags his hands down his face and groans.]
She must have. Which means when she threatened to shoot me...
[It wouldn't just be getting a bullet removed. A pure blast of magical energy to... well, any part of him, probably would be lethal. And even worse, while he didn't think she'd do it before, now he's not so certain. He leans against Viktor's wall, sliding down it until he's sitting on the floor.]
[ There is a considerable amount of time before Jayce gets an answer. Viktor is...not sure how to respond. He wasn't exactly expecting Jayce to return after all. Or he had made his peace with the fact that he might not, at any rate.
But then he gets this audio message and can't help but scoff on his end. ]
You wouldn't be able to reach me if I weren't. [ Another pause. ] You sound out of breath. There's no need to rush. It's not as if I'm going to leave.
[ When Viktor does answer, he does not sound well at all, almost as if he's just finished coughing up some blood, but that's not important right now!! He also sounds exhausted, as if working all day and night is having an adverse effect on his health, hm. ]
What is it? [ He doesn't know anything about the impending catastrophe that is just waiting to happen. ]
I have been consulting with Mr. Talis on increasing security for your work environment and thought I should introduce myself. My name is Harold Finch. I understand you were and are partners in creating Hextech?
[ This is new but not unexpected considering the huge amounts of attention Jayce had unintentionally drawn to them and their life's work. Another outsider being drawn into this mess and then reaching out to him of all people was not something Viktor expected. So it takes him a minute or two to respond. ] We are.
[ A pause. ] Was it Jayce who came to you for this consultation?
Not exactly. I keep track of events at the library and noticed your temporary residence. I inquired what had spurred it.
[ Harold likes Jayce but does not at all trust him to have more than good intentions, which can sometimes count for frightfully little, so he is deliberately attempting to sound out his partner. It's covert, but not ill-meant. He just isn't comfortable realizing someone has magical nuclear power and is unwilling to disable it entirely if necessary. ]
[ There's a layer to the world that Gorgug's starting to notice.
Nothing seems different to Gorgug at first on this Earth-2 place: there's a lot of humans around, they have a rather average-looking human house (in Gorgug's opinion), and his head knocks against some doorways as per usual. Where some may discover their powers quickly, Gorgug doesn't find any luck in jumping and being able to fly. Because you've got to try, right? Isn't that the power everybody wants?
It doesn't happen. That sucks. So Gorgug attempts to search for the anomaly with the computer he's brought and his bot, navigating the phone given by Aurora to try and search this world's version of the internet by hooking them together with his chameleon's adaptable-adapter tongue, a tool for any occasion. He's got some lunch. He's going to spend some time trying feel confident about this.
This is the environment--a computer, a bot, and a young man's lunch--that results in the scene that Viktor finds himself returning home to: the dinner table becoming a makshift worktable.
There's a chameleon bot on the table, metal crude in parts but otherwise decently made, about two feet in size, with the shell of its head removed to reveal the skeletal frame, the crystals and stones that presumably power it, make the eyes and its brain. There's a laptop (or some equivalent of a laptop, if clearly otherworldly) on the table with it, playing a video showing various grasshoppers--beautiful, majestic grass walkers. Gorgug isn't watching it, but instead seems to be in the middle of messing with stainless steel as if it were foil; bending it in shape, molding it like putty between his fingers, and then adding that to what appears to be the shape of a grasshopper robot with everything but the head and body shell made. There's regular sized-lightbulb in its centre, and one in its head cavity (don't look up, Viktor).
Somebody just felt like making the oddest robot in the kitchen, apparently. Or maybe more noteworthy are the silver tiny grasshoppers currently jumping around the kitchen, clearly made from bent and reshaped forks. Oh.
Sorry, Earth dad, but your big green son currently has his steampunk-esque goggles down and is focusing. There's a grasshopper the size of a finger on his head as he reshapes a spoon head into an oblong shape for the body of his project. ]
/Tragic. They are these birds who will lay their eggs in another's nest and then leave forever, zero fucks given. The chicks, when they hatch, instinctively push the original chicks out of the nest to their demise. There's a whole debate on whether they're just born evil or what, and what does that mean for genetics, you know.
All this to say. I, Sophie Cuckoo, would also absolutely relish in dropping you off a building and go on a whole fun ride of pretending it wasn't me, effective and entertaining. However, I'm trying really hard to be better than that.
So, here is the deal. I'm forgiving you. I'm not forgetting, though. I hear anything I dislike from you regarding me or mine from here on out, and you're toast.
[ It takes him a moment or two to respond. So Zaun's representation is now down to just the two of them, which is what he thinks, perhaps the one if he really thinks on it. ]
